History The Kingdom of Kutai Kertanegara

 


INDEPHEDIA.com - The Kingdom of Kutai Kertanegara is a kingdom in East Kalimantan, Indonesia, which was founded in the early 13th century AD with its first king named Aji Batara Agung Dewa Sakti (1300-1325).

The kingdom of Kutai Kertanegara had several times moved the royal capital, namely in Jaitan Layar or Kutai Lama (1300-1732), Pemarangan (1732-1782) and since 1782 in Tenggarong.

The kingdom, which was previously a conquered area in the state of Tanjungnagara Island by Patih Gajah Mada from Majapahit, was called Kute in Kakawin Nagarakretagama (1365).

In the 16th century AD, the Kingdom of Kutai Kertanegara under the leadership of King Aji Prince Sinum Panji Mendapa succeeded in conquering the Kingdom of Kutai Martapura or the Kingdom of the Mulawarman Dynasty Kutai which was located in Muara Kaman.

After conquering Kutai Martapura, King Kutai Kertanegara then named his kingdom the Kingdom of Kutai Kertanegara Ing Martapura as a fusion of the two kingdoms.

Kutai Kertanegara, a Malay kingdom that started as a Hindu kingdom in 1300 in Kutai Lama, in the 17th century AD became an Islamic kingdom. Later, the title of king was replaced with sultan.

The first King of Kutai Kertanegara to use the title of sultan was Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris (1732-1739). Subsequently, the name of the kingdom changed to the Kutai Kertanegara ing Martapura Sultanate.

The Kingdom of Kutai Kertanegara, which was established in the 1300s in Kutai Lama and turned into an Islamic kingdom with the title of the Kutai Kertanegara Ing Martapura Sultanate, finally ended in 1960. (*)
