INDEPHEDIA.com - Mount Kerinci is one of the highest volcanoes in Indonesia which is located in two regions, namely Jambi and West Sumatra Provinces, Sumatra Island.
Like other volcanoes, Mount Kerinci which is in the Kerinci Seblat National Park (TNKS) also has a story that has developed among local residents, even attracting the attention of foreign nationals.
Kerinci Seblat National Park itself administratively spans four provinces on the island of Sumatra, namely Jambi, West Sumatra, Bengkulu and South Sumatra.
On Mount Kerinci, the myth is that it is inhabited by Uhang Pandak (English: Short People), a small creature about 50 centimeters tall whose shape is a combination of a human and an Orangutan (Porest Person).
Uhang Pandak's body looks fat, his arms are long, his eyes are bright red and his body is covered with gray fur. It has no tail, but the soles of its feet face backwards.
Uhang Pandak is believed to be a rare animal that has lived for hundreds of years and still exists today.
The shape does look like a Forest Person (Indonesian: Orangutan). The only difference is that pandak people live more on land, while forest people live more in trees.
Uniquely, these creatures can detect the presence of people around them, so they always run away when they meet other people.
There were several local residents who claimed to have seen it, but the creature disappeared from sight as fast as lightning.
Not only that, a number of local and foreign researchers claim to have met this mysterious figure around the Kerinci Seblat National Park.
From what has been experienced by a number of eyewitnesses, there are five locations where Uhang Pandak was found, namely in Gunung Tujuh (Seven Mountains), Pesisir Selatan (South Coast), Muko-muko, Pasaman and in the Merangin area. (*)
